Blackboard Login Information
VSC Blackboard Portal Web Site Address  ==>  http://blackboard.vsc.edu
USERNAMES and PASSWORDS:
  • If you are on campus your browser will open to the VSC Blackboard Portal Welcome Page and you will be prompted to enter your username and then given instructions to create your password.
  • If you are off campus you need to open your browser and go to the VSC Blackboard Portal web site, the address is given above.
  • At the login prompt your username is: 
    • your initials - first, middle (X if you don't have one or didn't supply us with one), last followed by your birth month (including the leading zero if there is one) then birth day (also including the leading zero) followed by 0 (the numeral zero).
    • Here are some examples:
      • Mary Louise Turner, September 5 = MLT09050
      • Patrick Douglas Turner, June 10 = PDT06100
      • Lisa Lyons, October 31 = LXL10310 (no middle initial, add an X)
      • Camila Jane Parker-Bowles, January 1 = CJP01010 (note for hyphenated names only the first initial of the hyphenated last name is used.)

GENERAL BLACKBOARD INFORMATION:
Once you reach your own welcome page you'll want to click on Personal Information (left side), Change Password link and fill out the form. Also check to make sure we have your correct email address and change it here if you want. If at any time during the semester you need to change your email, you should do it here. In this new software it is your responsibility to keep it up to date. You can explore the Personal Tools section to set up all sorts of stuff.
If you click on My Institution or Courses Tab, you'll see the courses in which you are registered (at the VSC) which have an online component. These are under the heading My Courses or Course List. The course title is a link to the specific web pages for that course.
Once you've linked to the specific course web site you should check out the Course Information, Staff Information, Course Documents, and Assignments.
Where's the class discussion held?  Look for the button labeled Discussion Board (it might be under communication tools). Your instructor may have already set up an introductory discussion thread for you.
Also under Communication, look at Send Email, you can send an email to your instructor or other students in your class from this window.
Under Student Tools, the Student Manual online is very good and an excellent place to start if you have a question about Blackboard.
